My Dog Watcing Red Dog

You know I’m such a sucker for Dog films, Hatchiko and Marley & Me are my favorites. My sister recommended me to watch Red Dog so we set up a big screen in my brother’s chamber. Now, I have companion in watching the film because I’m watching it with my dog Twinkle.

I think twinkle got mesmerized by Red Dog in screen that she manages to watch and wag her tail every time Red Dog appears. So cute, because she felt sad when Red Dog died. She barked as if commanding Red Dog to wake up.

Red dog is based on legendary true story of dog that lived his life hitching rides and travelling in Pilbara Australia. The canine was adored and well taken care by the community. He had no master though until such time he chose a Bus driver to be his master. The dog traveled with his master in his bus trips. Red Dog’s master died, like the film Hachiko he waited for his master to arrive. When he finally realizes that his master is not returning home he decided to look for him and started his search journey on his own. Red Dog died because of poisoning. His body was found on his master’s grave.

It’s amazing how dogs are loyal with their master. I was wondering if my dog would the same for me. When, I first bought Twinkle I was so giddy to bring her home. Little did I know, that their lifespan is short and separation from her would be excruciating.  

Buying a Shih Tzu (first hand experience)

Twinkle’s real name is ‘ZhenZhen of Rach-a-beth’ (as stated on her PCC registration certificate). I bought her 12,000Php at The Grooming Palace Pet Shop at Tiendesitas Pet Village. This includes 1 shot of vaccine, a small pack of dog food, leash, 1 free grooming service and discounts on their pet merchandises such as cage, dog shampoo and comb.

What I liked about The Grooming Palace pet shop is the basic sanitation and accommodating pet shop staff. They also, offer quality puppies you can see it for yourself.

Dogs that are registered at Philippine Canine Club, Inc. (PCCI) are more expensive as compared to non-registered dogs. PCCPI was organize to promote and encourage love for pure bred dogs.

This is how a PCCPI Registration Certificate looks like…

• It is like a birth certificate that lists down the date of birth of the dog, its sire and dam, color and specific markings.


• It shows the genetic lineage or ancestry (four generations in the case of the PCCI) of each dog.

My Shih Tzu Dog Had an Allergy

My shih tzu dog is normally giddy and energetic every time we arrive at home. Last week my shih tzu was more of “malambing” while she creeps right into my legs. I relish those moments and I hug her tight. As I got a chance to take a closer look at her face, I realize that her eyelids and mouth was swollen. I manage to inspect if there are any other body parts that were affected. I found out that her genital also swells.

I was suspecting that it was some sort of allergic reaction (dogs also have allergies, fyi).  So, I was searching the net for allergy remedy for dogs. Apparently, most of the posts recommend seeing a vet which we can’t afford at 12 midnight. The least thing that I can do is to monitor her breathing if the allergy affects it. Aside from swelling symptoms, my dog loss her appetite and vomits every time we feed her.

The following morning, I have to rush to work for my morning meeting. I used my lunch break to take my shih tzu dog to the vet at Tiendesitas. Luckily, Marko was able to accompany us.

Her veterinary clinic is at Animal Care Specialists at Tiendesitas. The vaccine is more pricey as compared to other vet clinic according to my friend. One thing I like about their clinic is good sanitation and the vetd doctors are very accommodating in giving their pet advice beyond their consultation services. Also, they keep track of full records of your dog within their system. The consultation fees ranges from Php300 to Php400.

According to the vet my dog is experiencing allergy reactions probably with insect bite. I suspect Twinkle might have been bitten by ants.

As for vomiting, this was caused by gastric hyper acidity.  Dogs usually suffer acidity. They throw up yellow bile when their stomach is empty. The vet recommended to reduce the amount of food we feed her to avoid vomiting.

The vet prescribed the following for her allergies and vomiting:

• Allergies: The vet prescribed antihistamine for her allergies. I asked for liquid since my dog pukes medicine tablets, so the vet recommended Diphenhydramine. This should be taken 5ml twice a day when allergy attacks.


• Gastric Hyper Acidity: Maalox Suspension which should be taken at least 10 minutes before meal for 3 days. If your dog can eat tablets, your dog can take kremil-s. This should be cut into 4 equal parts, each piece should be taken up ten minutes before meal.

As you would notice the above mentioned medicines are human medicines which you can buy in your local drugstore.

I’m glad that we didn’t have to confine our dog. Thankful that her allergies was minor that it did not affect her breathing and internal organs.

I think Twinkle is happy too. She was so behaved and cooperative during her check-up. Btw, we have to bring her back to the vet for her annual vaccine: heart worm and 4-in-1.
